Where does the word pazzo come from? 🔎
The origin of pazzo is uncertain, but according to some etymologists, it might derive from the Latin patiens (patient, one who suffers), through an alteration of the word. Other scholars connect it to the root pat-, indicating suffering or affliction. In the Middle Ages, mental disorders were often associated with suffering or affliction of the soul.
